APAC is seeking approximately 35 volunteer actor/singer/dancers for the production, which will be performed Feb. 15 through March 10 at the Aloha Theatre. No stage experience is required, and newcomers are encouraged to audition.

All roles are available, including Dorothy, Auntie Em, Uncle Henry, Cowardly Lion, Tin Woodsman, Scarecrow, Wicked Witch of the West, The Wizard, Glinda the Good Witch and a large chorus which will portray Munchkins, Poppies, Crows, Citizens of Oz, Winkies, Flying Monkeys and various other supporting roles. Prospective crew members are also welcome to attend auditions and fill out a form to show interest. Cast and crew members must commit to the entire rehearsal and performance schedule.

“The Wizard of Oz” is a family friendly show, based on the Royal Shakespeare Company’s adaptation, which is a salute to the 1939 Hollywood film, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg. APAC’s production will be directed by Jerry Tracy, with music direction by Joel Gimpel, vocal direction by Marinella Savarese and choreography by Lee Vinson.

Those auditioning need attend only one of the audition sessions; dress comfortably, wear closed shoes and be prepared to learn a short dance combination and sing part of a prepared song. An accompanist will be provided. If the song is from the show, sheet music will be available; other songs are welcome, but sheet music in the appropriate key must be provided for the pianist. Each prospective cast member will also be asked to deliver a one- to two-minute prepared reading. Memorization is appreciated but not required, and the piece can be from any source: a poem, some Bible verses, a short newspaper or magazine article, or a selection from a favorite book or play. Those auditioning will be seen in small groups in order of arrival, and the entire process will take about 20 minutes per group. Those younger than 18 will need a parent or guardian’s permission.
